NELSON M. BAKER, A FAMILY ALBUM
Sudbury Publishing Group is pleased to announce its first non-fiction titles. These are carefully organized compilations of images and documentation that cover the span of several generations. Nelson M. Baker published the definitive Genealogy of the Descendants of Edward Baker in 1867.
These two books capture his life and times.
The first book, Nelson M. Baker, 19th Century Genealogist, A Family Album is a group of Carte de Visite of Nelson M. Baker and his siblings, parents, father’s siblings, and grandmother on his father’s side.
The second book, Nelson M. Baker, 19th Century Genealogist, School Papers, features Nelson’s writing which provides a glimpse into his thinking and that of his brother, Byron, as young men.
The vintage images, cleaned slightly but intentionally left authentic, come from a satchel found in the attic of the Baker homestead in Lafayette, New York. They were turned over, in the 1970s, to the local historian, J. Roy Dodge. He held onto the satchel, waiting for a descendant to reach out to him. Editor Jonathan W. Baker connected with Mr. Dodge accidentally, by calling the Lafayette Public Library, after which Mr. Dodge gave him permission to copy the images and publish these books.

TORY ROOF
FINALIST, LITERARY FICTION 2019 IPNE BOOK AWARDS (Independent Book Publishers of New England)
A “BEST BOOK LAUNCHED THIS WEEK” BY REEDSY DISCOVERY (JUNE 21, 2019)
TORY ROOF walks a thin line between reality and imagination. This is a story of love and longing, confidence and conviction, danger and doubt. Sarah Sutherland didn’t go looking for the adventure that engulfed her. She was a modern woman — a mom and real estate agent who accepted her routine married life — until she encountered a fiery Revolutionary War agitator in a vintage home she was selling. Drawn to him physically and emotionally, she finds herself embroiled in events leading up to the American Revolution. Her husband didn’t like it. But to her, the experience was affirming, allowing her to become an activist, writer, and soon-to-be mother. Parallel plots unfold, autumn to autumn, in tandem with true occurrences that took place in 1765. Struggling to reconcile her two realities, Sarah enlists the help of a psychiatrist, only to learn that people around her are not as they seem.

Here’s what readers are saying about Tory Roof:
Goodreads: Deborah Shepherd‘s review
Apr 16, 2022
It was amazing.
When real estate agent Sarah Sutherland opens the door to the 18th century house she’s showing, she has no idea she’s in for the adventure of a lifetime. Set in present day and pre-Revolutionary War New England, Tory Roof gives us a thrilling romance, a plot twist I never saw coming, and heroes and villains enough for two centuries. It is also impeccably researched and presents a welcome slant on the part women played in creating our country. For history buffs, fans of romance and of time travel, and anyone who loves an engaging tale, well told. I found Tory Roof unputdownable and have already ordered the next book in the series.

SILVER LINE
“OUTSTANDING PLOT AND STORY APPEAL” — Judge, 27th Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards 2019
SELECTED BY PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY ‘BOOKLIFE’ FOR “BEST FIRST LINES,” FEBRUARY 2019
Imagine having the benefit of maturity from the perspective of youth. SILVER LINE is an adventure born of folklore that picks up with Sarah’s son, Jared. He is now 18 and starting college. Like his mother, he possesses remarkable sensory skills but has repressed them. When he meets Alexa on campus, that changes. They discover they can revert to their former, older selves — a rugged miner and spirited dance hall girl living in an 1860s Colorado town. Lured by the untamed frontier and the heat of romance, they continue to return, where Alexa (as Lydia) assumes a heroic role. In the present, however, Jared is a journalism student bent on finding art still missing from the Gardner Museum heist. Following leads, he and Alexa tangle with a stalker, shady art dealers, and a homeless man who knows a lot. They finally realize that clues to the present reside in the past.

ABSENT

For men in mid-life crisis, women in dull jobs, or anyone seeking adventure, Absent takes you on a wild ride.
Carter Sutherland, a former high school science teacher, is now a think tank executive living near D.C. His world is precise and analytical; his demeanor, reserved. Because he is partially color-blind, his black-and-white perspective is both literal and physical — until he meets client Tracee Green — a synesthete who sees words as colors. When she offers to take him on four sensory journeys to improve his perception and emotional intelligence, he readily agrees. With the power of suggestion and aid of questionable beverages, Tracee Green guides him to pivotal eras in time where he assumes the personas of his alter-egos: Arturo, Arthur, Kar, and RT. With each trip, he learns about himself and his surroundings — insights he applies to a camouflage project at work. There’s no denying that Carter is attracted to his vision guide, who delights in teasing him with innuendos and blurred reality. And there’s no doubt that his wife, Sarah, isn’t thrilled with him visiting Tracee at the Green Light Foundation. The plot turns when Carter starts to suspect Green Light is a front for something else. With the help of his son, an investigative reporter, a subplot is revealed.
